Last week it rained and rained and rained and there was a huge storm up north. Which meant of course the trains were down. Any excuse and they stop running. Fortunately for me it was the Christmas party that night at my agency. I’d thought I wouldn’t be going – but I did and it was a load of fun – at Madame Tussaud’s. Brilliant!
What that all meant was that instead of going home I’d go and stay at Tamara’s, and enjoy the wonderful surroundings of their beautifully designed home in East London. Whenever I stay they make up a lovely firm futon with crisp white cotton duvet and sheets with a welsh woolen blanket to keep me warm. I sleep in the snug – the walls are lined with art books and good novels and science fiction and the childrens books are arranged in several wooden French wine boxes on the floor.
And after a good night’s sleep I get up at 6.30am and pad my way up the Dinesen floorboards up the stairs to the black slate bathroom. It’s truly a work of art in black and white. And every time I visit I think to myself I want a bathroom like this one day – it’s exactly like the one I dreamt of when I was a child and I was going to be a stockbroker like Zirka in Capital City and drive a crapped out rusty old yellow 911.
So this is it – time to start planning my dream bathroom. Starting with the shower.
A fixed shower head can be installed directly onto a wall or on an ‘arm’ which is fitted onto the cubicle tiles. With the former, you can usually adjust the head to control the direction of the spray. With the latter, you can slide the shower head up and down the arm depending on whether you want to wash your hair and your body or just one or the other.
Handheld shower heads rest in a cradle. You can remove them in order to point the spray exactly where you want it. Perfect for shampooing kids hair and cleaning the shower. My favourite job!!
