Definitely the greatest show on Earth – friends have been recommending Giffords Circus to me for years. It’s traditional, it’s funny, it’s entertaining and musical – and it’s also amazingly impressive on all fronts.
This year their very highbrow circus was hijacked by a troupe of Serbian and Ukranian performers who definitely lowered the tone and caused plenty of trouble, leaving chaos in their wake. The opera singer was nearly killed by a snake and the show was almost over when their clumsy magician outed the power.
The circus tent is beautifully decorated with intricate hand-sewn applique panels all the way around the interior. The costumes were beautifully made, lavish and very very proper. The music was wonderfully done – a mixture of classical, opera and gypsy all-night party.
We were amazed by the acrobatics and horsemanship, the dancing and singing and the incredible energy that just pumped out of the performers. The girls did not once complain, or moan, or want to go home or to the toilet. In fact they didn’t stop clapping, laughing, watching and having a great time in their spots in the front row.
Giffords Circus was every bit as amazing as my friends had said and more. It was traditional, beautiful, funny, entertaining and very impressively done. The best show we have ever been to and most heartily recommended!
Top tip: Order your £6 pizza in advance so it’s ready at the start of intermission. Arrive an hour early to get in the queue. Sit front row centre, opposite the stage (although you might be plucked from the audience if you sit here).
