The best thing I’ve ever done for my blog

Blog Boss Mood Board

Hey y’all.

You might have noticed a bit of Spring cleaning going on around here of late.

It’s been on the cards for some time, and after a four year break from proper blogging after Edith was born and I went back to work, I’m very excited to say I’ll be devoting a lot of my time to this little online place of mine again. Thanks so much to the readers who have stuck with me all this time – I’d love for you to say hello. You can’t imagine how much I’ve appreciated it even when my blogging really did thin out!

The past few weeks I’ve been exposed to some amazing thinkers and teachers in the world of blogging. I signed up to Holly Becker from Decor8’s Blog Boss class, and I have to say it’s the best class I’ve ever taken. It’s been so interesting – everything they teach is relevant AND exciting.

I for one have been so inspired but the real key for me is that it’s been such a massive motivator. Having people look at my homework each week and critiquing it has been brilliant. I was so keen to get my homework done properly this week, that when my scanner broke, we drove down to Witney in the snow at 3pm on Sunday to get a new one.

The planning aspect of the course has also really helped me pull all my ideas together into a tight unit that feels tangible and achievable.
I feel like I’ve come so far in such a short space of time.

Sign up to be notified of the next Blogging Your Way course – I know I’ll be doing it!

    Hi Charlotte,
I love your blog-it’s such a generous, beautiful, space. I’m wondering if you can help me with something. I’m trying to start my own blog, but I don’t really know where to start. I’d like something that provides freedom in design alteration and I don’t mind paying for a subscription. Can you please tell me what blogging platform you use for your blog?

    Many thanks from Abu Dhabi,
    Julia

    1. Charlotte | Anknel and Burblets avatar

Hi Julia. I use WordPress and have customised the Duet theme from Theme Foundry. It’s a one off free of around US$70 and then you need to self host. I noticed SquareSpace do some amazing themes and they do the hosting. Let me know if you have any more questions!!

        Charlotte,

In addition to your blog and Flickr, have you found any really great online photo storage for family photos/etc? Photobucket, SmugMug, etc.? I’m trying to figure out how to store and display all the digital images we have and I would really value your advice.

        1. Charlotte | Anknel and Burblets avatar

Hi Julia. I use DropBox to store all my files – which means I can work from anywhere and always access my photos. It’s not cheap though – I would just stick with Flickr if I didn’t have so many images to store.

Hello Charlotte! 🙂 I can’t wait to see more of your gorgeous country house – your style at home and on your blog both feel comfortable and carefully considered.

We are having our own move soon – funnily enough to a sandstone cottage with an aga, so we can pretend we’re in the English countryside too, even though we’re actually just moving up the road. 😉

    1. Charlotte | Anknel and Burblets avatar

Kim. Have you deleted your beautiful blog? If what I read is right, similar thing happened to me. That’s when I stopped blogging. It’s taken four years to start again.

    2. Charlotte | Anknel and Burblets avatar

PS. I hope you start your blog back up again – or you can re-instate it? I’d love to see more about your new cottage – sounds wonderful x

Hello from Waiheke Island… a long time ago we spoke on the phone… and I have peeked at your blog every so often since then. It looks lovely ,and makes me feel like getting back into mine. A winter project perhaps… Hope it’s starting to warm up for you over there.

    1. Charlotte | Anknel and Burblets avatar

Hi Christy, yes I clearly remember speaking to you on the phone. What did we talk about? My memory says it was after we’d already been at Waiheke. Are you friends with Judy Cox? And yes, the weather is improving a lot over here. Thanks goodness!

It’s a small island… Judy lives just up the road from us, she used to join us sometimes for craft when my children were young at the steiner kindy.

Absolutely love this Charlotte, I love the style of your blog anyway but this moodboard is beautiful, especially like the drawing style. So nice to see something done by hand, we tend to forget about how to use a pencil and paper these days. Great job!! Glad you’ve had fun on Blog Boss, sad I couldn’t do it this time.

    1. Charlotte | Anknel and Burblets avatar

Hi Anna – I really miss drawing by hand – was a big part of my London job, so I have bought a scanner and once the kids are back at school I’m going to start doing more illustration for my blog.
